All devotees of the Black nazarene please wake up! just read the Bible.
Because God said: my people become perish because of lack of Knowledge.

salamat sa komento, kapatid. this religious craze dramatizes the truth that fanaticism knows no discernment. the catholic church can't and won't stop this practice, despite the protestations of some of its priests, because it is not only a great source of income and prestige but also an essential fabric to the tapestry of superstition it has woven for its members. let us not fail to note, however, that even protestants/evangelicals/pentecostals also have their own "idolatrous" leanings like bibliolatry (take a look at the KJV-only folks, for instance) and episcopalatry (the undue stress on the authority of the pastor/elder/bishop), among others. :)

It's not merely fanaticism but rather an expression of faith. And there's a difference between seeing it and practically experiencing it. Trust me I was like you then and but now - I'm a changed Roman Catholic - It's been 7 years now since I first attended this ghost-bumping Celebration and every year, I always looking forward to it - Its my annual pilgrimage. I respect your opinion but please try to be considerate with other people. No offense. May God truly bless you! Viva Nazarene.

I am one of those followers!

I’ am blissful when I saw the depiction of Nazarene, it’s is precise from the bible that anyone who looked at the brazen Serpent to be healed, Notice that, One had to look at the bronze statue of the serpent to be cure, which shows that statues could be used ritually, not merely as religious decorations. (Numbers 21:9)

As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness even so must the son of Man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:14-15)

+
“And I, if I be lifted up, from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” John 12:32

The Cross then is the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy foreshadowed since the time of Moses. And if the image of a bronze snake was powerful to look at, how much more the image of the Cross of Jesus. So, it is not evil to make an image especially if it is the image of Christ crucified.

and also Scripture tells us:

We must to proclaimed that Christ was crucified

“but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness” 1 CORINTO 1:23

Christian are called to glory in the Lord’s Cross
“VIVA NAZARENO”

“But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Galatians 6:14
So like St. Paul we Catholics 'glory' in the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. Any problem with that?

The Cross is the Power of God for the saved

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 CORINTO 1:18)

"Let us proclaimed the Cross of the Lord"
do not Ashamed for this symbol

Warning for the Enemies of the Cross

“for many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the ENEMIES of THE CROSS of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly” Philippians 3:18-19

Who Are they?

For those often strike against to Nazareno which is JESUS CHRIST

At siya' y dumating at tumahan sa isang bayang tinatawag na Nazaret; upang maganap ang mga sinalita ng mga propeta, na siya'y tatawaging NAZARENO.
Mateo 2:23

Conclusion

The symbol of the Cross is an imperative for those followers We must to recognized that God allowed to make this instrument to be heal for those believers In reality I’ am one of those, but make it clear that I do not worship any statue, yet the Cross of Jesus is subject to respect beyond the statue of Rizal, Bonifacio or even Aguinaldo.
Before I finish, bear in mind that the Catholics worship GOD Alone “The Father, The Son, & Holy Spirit”

Kahit po ang paggawa ng imahe ay kasalanan.

Sinabi po ng Diyos kay Moses sa Deuteronomy 5:8 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below."

A BLESSED NEW YEAR!!! There is what we call TOLERANCE of religion, respect of one's faith. Joining and celebrating the feast day of the Black Nazarene is one way of showing and strengthening your faith. You can never question the FAITH of any one. If it is, it is. And becareful in quoting the WORD OF GOD (as Mark said in his comment), Christ is NOT an idol. The statue is a symbol of your faith. If you want to show and share your faith, do it. don't be ashamed of it. Our faith is our strength and the way to God.
